Second Opinion · Shelton, Connecticut

Before you commit,
get clarity first.

If you have been recommended spinal decompression, laser therapy, shockwave-style care, or a large upfront treatment plan, a second opinion can help you better understand your condition, your options, and the costs before you decide.

Bring any recent imaging, reports, or treatment recommendations you already have.

Understanding your options

Were you quoted thousands for care?

Many patients come to us after being given a substantial treatment plan for back pain, sciatica, disc problems, neck pain, or chronic joint pain.

Sometimes the recommended treatment may be reasonable — but the price, pressure, or size of the commitment leaves you unsure whether to move forward.

At Connecticut Disc and Laser Therapy Centers, we believe you should understand what may be contributing to your symptoms, what treatment is being recommended, and what it will cost before making a major decision.

Your visit gives you an opportunity to meet with Dr. James J. Dalfino, review your symptoms and history, and determine whether one of our non-surgical treatment approaches may be appropriate.

A second opinion does not mean the first recommendation was wrong. It simply gives you another perspective before you commit.

No pressure. No guessing.

Understand the recommendation.
Then make your decision.

The purpose of a second opinion is clarity — not to automatically replace another provider's plan or promise that a different treatment will be better.

Your second opinion visit

A straightforward four-step process.

01

Consultation

We review your symptoms, history, prior care, and the treatment plan you have already been given.

02

Examination

Dr. Dalfino performs an examination focused on the area involved and the pattern of your symptoms.

03

Review and Findings

Relevant imaging or reports can be reviewed along with the examination findings to help explain what may be contributing to the problem.

04

Clear Options

If care in our office appears appropriate, we explain the options, recommended next steps, and costs before you decide.

No huge upfront plan required

Clear costs before you decide.

If you have already been quoted thousands of dollars elsewhere, the last thing you need is another confusing sales presentation.

We start with a simple new-patient visit. If additional care is recommended, the options and costs are reviewed before you move forward.

HSA and FSA funds are welcome, and documentation may be provided for patients who choose to submit reimbursement requests through their individual benefits. Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan.

More than 25 years helping patients understand their options.

Dr. Dalfino has spent more than 25 years evaluating musculoskeletal pain, disc conditions, and nerve-related symptoms. A second-opinion visit is focused on understanding your case and whether the treatment options available in the office appear reasonable for you.

If another type of care appears more appropriate, the goal is still the same: give you useful information so you can make a more informed decision.

Frequently asked questions

Second opinions, answered.

What should I bring to a second-opinion visit?

Bring any recent imaging reports, MRI or X-ray information, previous diagnoses, and the treatment recommendation or estimate you were given if you have them. These can help provide useful context.

Will you tell me whether the other provider was wrong?

The purpose of the visit is not to criticize another provider. It is to evaluate your current condition, discuss the information available, and explain whether different conservative options may be reasonable to consider.

Do I have to commit to a treatment plan at the visit?

No. If additional care is recommended, the proposed treatment and costs are explained so you can decide whether you want to proceed.

What if I was recommended spinal decompression somewhere else?

Dr. Dalfino can evaluate whether spinal decompression appears appropriate for your condition and discuss how the DRX9000 may fit into a conservative treatment plan if you are a suitable candidate.

What if I was recommended SoftWave or shockwave treatment?

We no longer offer shockwave therapy. We can explain how the technologies currently used in our office — including EmField Pro HEIT and MLS Laser Therapy — differ and whether one may be appropriate for your condition.

Does a second opinion guarantee that I can avoid surgery?

No. Some conditions may still require orthopedic, surgical, or other medical care. The goal is to determine whether conservative treatment is reasonable to explore based on your individual situation.
