Stiffness after resting
Tell us how your knee feels when you first stand up or begin moving after sitting.
Knee Arthritis · Shelton, Connecticut
When knee arthritis makes stairs, walks or getting out of a chair uncomfortable, a focused evaluation can help you understand your options and plan the next step.

Understand the condition
Osteoarthritis involves changes to the cartilage and other tissues of the knee joint. Pain, stiffness and swelling can affect daily activity. Other types of arthritis and injuries can also cause knee symptoms, so the evaluation matters before deciding on care.
Tell us how your knee feels when you first stand up or begin moving after sitting.
Describe the tasks you avoid, whether that means stairs, shopping or time outdoors.
Bring previous records and explain what has helped, what has not, and what has changed.
Your evaluation
Your visit is an opportunity to discuss your knee history, previous injuries, current limitations and treatment experience. Bring any existing imaging reports and tell us about swelling, locking or giving way. Dr. Dalfino will explain the findings and whether further testing or referral should come before treatment.
Explain what you would like to do more comfortably, whether that means work, sleep, exercise or everyday tasks. Your goals help focus the conversation.

For knee osteoarthritis, suitable exercise and strengthening are important parts of conservative care. Activity adjustments and, when appropriate, weight management can also help. A plan should reflect your abilities and goals rather than a fixed package for every knee.
At Connecticut Disc and Laser Therapy Centers, ask whether our non-surgical services, including MLS laser therapy or emField Pro, are appropriate to discuss as part of your individual plan. We will explain the intended goals, limitations and how progress will be reviewed. These services are not presented as a way to regrow cartilage or guarantee avoidance of knee replacement.
A hot, red, swollen knee with fever needs urgent medical assessment. Seek prompt care after a major injury, if you cannot bear weight, or if the knee appears deformed. Sudden shortness of breath with new leg swelling warrants emergency care.
Common questions
No. Injuries and other joint or tendon problems can also cause knee pain. An examination helps determine the appropriate next step.
We do not promise cartilage regrowth or reversal of arthritis. Our discussion focuses on realistic goals for comfort, mobility and daily activity.
No. Nonsurgical options are often considered first. Persistent pain and major functional limitations may warrant an orthopedic consultation; the decision depends on your individual situation.
